Conduct & Regulation

Any conduct that endangers the welfare of any person in any way is prohibited and will result in suspension or expulsion.  Misconduct by an individual may be considered action against the whole team resulting in a crew penalty.

Crew members must meet the academic eligibility requirement throughout the rowing season.  Any crew member with unexplained absences from school may not be able to compete in regattas.

Any use of alcohol, drugs or tobacco will result in a rower being automatically cut from the team. The team is self-policed. Rowers have a responsibility to themselves and to each other from being put into a position of being cut from the team. Any questions or infractions should be brought immediately to the attention of the head coach.

Both athletes and coaches will use appropriate language at all times - during practices, races and trips.

Crew members may not operate equipment from other schools without the express permission of the school's coach.

Crew members are not permitted in the park without the supervision of a coach or a parent representative.

Any damage or theft must be reported immediately to the coach or a parent representative.

Volunteers, coaches and other school athlethes will be treated with respect.

  Shell & Regatta Assignments

The coaches make shell assignments (determining who rows in which seat on what boat and which coxswain leads which boat). Erg tests, performance on the water, physiological capacity (height, weight, muscular development), attitude, commitment, technical skill, and ability to respond positively to coaches' critiques are factors used by our coaches to gauge each rower's capabilities. Shell assignments can and will change during the season in accordance with the needs of the team and the differing rates at which some rowers progress versus others.

Crews will be chosen for regattas based on their commitment, conduct during training and information received from the school pertaining to school conduct and academic standing.  The best sweeps are not automatically chosen and the whole crew must maintain their conduct to compete in regattas.

  Crew Dress
All crew members must have a change of clothing with them for water training.  Clothing for water training should be close fitting and have basic water resistant properties.  Coxswains should be well covered with warm clothes that can withstand wind and water penetration.

For practices and warm-ups, rowers need running shoes, spandex pants or shorts, polypropylene undershirt, fleece hat, wool socks and a fleece jacket plus the usual tee shirts and sweats. We recommend the following clothing:

  • Lycra clothing
  • Medium weight cotton
  • Light weight wool
  • Lined nylon, close fitting
  • hat or cap for heat retention, when not windy

Crew members may require extra footwear for walking around the boat house area.  Sandals or tennis shoes are recommended.

  Food

Bottled water is highly recommended for practices and regattas..

High energy foods are recommended for before and after training.  Do not consume heavy foods before or immediately after training or regattas.
